Ladies and gentlemen:
Ariana was finally born this morning, April 10, at 5:14 a.m. (central time). She’s in perfect health. 7 pounds, 7 ounces, 20.5 inches long.
Genevra labored for only 5 hours, and was so incredibly brave. The first time she even let out a peep was when the head began to show (she chose not to go with the epidural). Everyone was amazed. I’m telling you, that woman, no matter what she tries her hand at, never comes off like a beginner. Amazing.
We wound up with a doctor who lets the men cacth their babies. I dawned latex gloves, wrapped one hand under the back of Ari’s little neck and after a particularly productive final push, I put the other hand under her butt, lifted her into the air and watched her unfold into my little daughter. It’s a sight I’ll never forget.
So much to say, so much to do. So, so, so incredibly tired–both of us, though one of us did a heck of a lot more last night.
I’ll be heading back to the hospital in the next few hours. They won’t be releasing Genevra and the baby until Wednesday while they keep the baby for observation since Genevra tested GBH positive. All very routine, procedural and nuthin’ to worry about. They had her on antibiotics for a full three hours before they broke her amniotic sack…Gotta get back to taking care of business! I hope to talk to all of you soon.
totally a daddy now,
