Your vocabulary at age 2

carbondale houseI found this list in  my files the other day and was very happy I had written it down. I don’t record enough things like this and often feel that your childhood is slipping away from me like the last days of a cherished vacation. (Another reason I started this record.)

Here is a slice of our life together when I was your primary caretaker, during those first three years when we lived in Carbondale and our days started with toys on the living room floor, and ended soon after Mommy came home from grad school…

Ari’s words at 24 months:

1. Momma

2. Dadda, Daddy

3. Simon (sigh sigh)

4. Juice

5. Cheese

6. Fish (all those three pretty much sound alike—like “shzsh”)

7. Ball (Bah-oww)

8. Path (pah)

9. Two

10. Papa

11. Papu

12. Dead (deh)

13. “D,” as in the letter, and can identify it

14. “O,” as in the letter, and can identify it

15. “A,” as in the letter, and can identify it

16. “S,” as in the letter, and can identify it (can also identify but not say “M”)

17. Puffs (pah)

18. Da, Ta, Taya or Toya, all mean “yes”

19. hi

21. uh oh

22. eyes (aieees)*

23. yeah

24. hey (ai)*

25. tea*

26. see *

27. too**

28. tree

29. gumball

32. baba (for bottle)
